This vibrant art quilt suggests an inner dialogue between voices about remaining in an interior space or moving through windows to the glowing colors beyond.
The bold colors of this luscious green, blue and mustard hand dyed fabric create interest in contrast with the luminous silk and darker hand dyed borders of the windows. The window areas also have more surface design techniques employed with added orange and rust patterns. Couching of yarn with metallic threads adds texture and definition.
The repetition of long flowing lines and layering of circles create depth and move one’s eye across the surface of the the work. This work is very full of energy and vibrancy. I notice it is hard for observers to resist touching the quilt because the textures draw one into the piece. It has contrasting textures of transparent silk organza, shimmering silk dupioni and the variety of blanket stitch, satin stitch and zig zag stitch with metallic threads on the couched yarns. The quilting occasionally echos the silk and organza circles.
This quilt won the Judges Choice award at the Quilt and Sewing Fest of New Jersey.
