This art quilt depicts two rabbits in the grass with the moon glowing through the weeping cherry blossoms heralding the arrival of spring.
As a child, growing up in Japan, I remember singing a children’s song named “Usagi, Usagi” which speaks of rabbits watching the full moon. You may listen to the song here.
The scene is created on a deep blue background with a watercolor effect. The pale yellow moon glows through the branches of spring cherry blossoms and is reflected in the water.
The blue water reflects the darkening sky and the two rabbits huddle in the grass observing the world around them. Fronds of swamp grass wave in the breeze.
Materials are cottons, silk and nonwovens. Hand painted with fabric paint and marker. Metallic and polyester threads.
There is a hanging sleeve and embroidered signature on the back of the quilt.

This quilt was on exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival in November, 2019. It was also to be on exhibit at the Long Beach International Quilt Festival in July 2020, but that show had to be cancelled due to Covid-19. It has arrived home from it’s travels and is available for sale.
