This art quilt was inspired by a photo taken by my husband while cycling along the Schuylkill River in Philly.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is an imposing building high on a rocky hill overlooking the smaller white buildings of the Fairmount Water Works below. The Water Works is often used as a wedding venue with its romantic gazebos and pleasant views of the river.

I fused pieces of hand dyed fabric to the surface, stitched them down then used a Micron pen to add much more detailing. Painted cheese cloth was also used for some of the tree and shrubbery foliage. Thread sketching defined the rolling cascade of water as it descended to a lower level on the river. Colorful windows were added to create whimsy.

Framed in a white wood grain floating frame.

This piece is currently on exhibit at the Cosmopolitan Club through Nov. 2, 2023.
