This art quilt is a study in perspective which depicts the Drexel Building at 15th & Moravian Streets in Philadelphia.
Since moving to center city Philadelphia one year ago I have enjoyed walking the neighborhoods and taking photos of architecture which I find particularly interesting. The Drexel Building just had some extra character with the roman arched windows and molded shapes. I did not depict it with all these details as that was not my motivation for this piece. My intention was just to see if I could construct a work with basically the correct perspective lines and angles.
I played with colorful glimpses into the windows and also with the spiral quilting. I thought it needed some movement and fun in contrast to the strong angular lines of the building. Below are my photographs of the actual building.
This piece was created using all hand dyed cottons. Fused and raw edge appliqued. There is a hanging sleeve on the back. Free US shipping.
This piece is currently on exhibit at the Cosmopolitan Club through Nov. 2, 2023.
